Ukraine’s President Admits Defeats In East

KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Ukraine’s president has admitted that his forces are overwhelmed by the Russian military in the country’s east. Volodymyr Zelensky made comments amid relentless battles over Ukraine’s industrial heartland and warnings by Russia of an all-out war with the West.
Explosions reverberate throughout the area, and smoke rises over the strategically located eastern city of Severodonetsk. After failing to capture Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, Russian troops pushed into Ukraine’s industrial Donbas region and parts of the Kharkiv area.
Authorities say civilians are among those killed here, with buildings being destroyed by relentless Russian shelling. Ukrainian President Zelensky notes that the situation has become “indescribably difficult” for Ukraine’s army. In a video message, he warned: “The 94th day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is getting very complicated.”
And Zekensky said: “Especially in the Donbas and Kharkiv areas, the Russian army is squeezing to have at least some results for themselves. The critical area of the struggle is Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Bakhmut, Popasna, and other areas where the Russian offensive is focused.”
He warned, “Today, the Russian army has launched a completely senseless, openly barbaric strike on the Sumy region. Missiles, mortars. And for what? What does it give?.”
However, Zelensky stressed that “Ukrainians in the Sumy region have already understood everything as in any other part of our state. Therefore, Russia will not be able to add anything with this new terror. More than that, Russia will not be able to intimidate us into submission.
MOSCOW DENIES WRONGDOING
However, Moscow has repeatedly denied deliberately shelling civilian targets. Instead, the Kremlin accuses the West of escalating the war by supporting Ukraine, expanding the NATO military alliance, and sanctions targeting Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the West is waging a battle against his nation. “The West has declared total war on us, on the whole Russian world,” Minister Lavrov said.
“No one is hiding it now. Instead, the United States and its satellites are doubling, tripling, and quadrupling their efforts to contain our country. Using a wide range of tools, from unilateral economic sanctions to thoroughly false propaganda in the global media,” he claimed.
Lavrov also said that the “culture of canceling Russia and everything connected with our country is already reaching the point of absurdity. Even the classics are banned, ranging from Tchaikovsky and Dostoevsky to Tolstoy and Pushkin. It is safe to say that this situation will be with us for a long time.”
Lavrov spoke as concerns rise among countries bordering Russia about the impact of the war on their economic and security situation. However, Finland and Sweden’s attempts to join the NATO military alliance have run into trouble, with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan saying he won’t support the move. He claimed the two Nordic nations support “Kurdish terrorists,” charges the two countries deny.
Under NATO rules, all member states have to agree on expanding the alliance, including Turkey.
