Gantz: Iran “a few weeks away” from producing uranium for a nuclear bomb

(Worthy News) – Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Tuesday that Iran is just a few weeks away from producing enough enriched uranium to make a nuclear bomb, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.
Gantz’s announcement comes even as talks between Iran and world powers to revive the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal have stalled.
Addressing a conference at the Institute for National Security Studies conference at Herzliya’s Reichman University, Gantz emphasized that Iran is intent on achieving nuclear weaponry.
“Iran continues to accumulate irreversible knowledge and experience in the development, research, production, and operation of advanced centrifuges, “Gantz said.
Gantz went on to explain that Iran is working towards producing and installing 1,000 advanced IR6 centrifuges enriching uranium, a move that would bring it very close to producing a nuclear weapon: “[Iran] stands just a few weeks away from obtaining fissile material needed for a first bomb,” Gantz said.
The International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General confirmed last month that Iran has set up a new workshop for producing centrifuge parts at its Natanz nuclear facility which houses thousands of centrifuges.
The JCPOA folded in 2018 when former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the United States from the treaty and reimposed severe sanctions on Iran.
The Iranian regime responded to the sanctions by developing its nuclear program exponentially, enriching uranium far beyond the amount agreed to in the 2015 deal.
