US President Imposes Sanctions On Russia As Troops Enter Eastern Ukraine

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Joe Biden announced new economic sanctions against Russia Tuesday after Russian President Vladimir Putin moved troops into two pro-Moscow separatist areas of eastern Ukraine.
Biden said the United States is imposing “full blocking” on two large Russian financial institutions and “comprehensive sanctions” on Russian debt.
“That means we’ve cut off Russia’s government from Western finance,” he explained. “It can no longer raise money from the West and cannot trade in its new debt on our markets or European markets either.”
Biden suggested that the sanctions against the two Russian financial institutions are a “first tranche” as the White House wants to reserve the ability to take additional actions if Russian forces move deeper into Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin “is setting up a rationale to go much further. This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden stressed.
“Who in the Lord’s name does Putin think gives him the right to declare new so-called countries on territory that belongs to his neighbors?” Biden wondered. “This is a flagrant violation of international law and demands a firm response from the international community.”
Speaking from the East Room of the White House, Biden condemned President Putin of Russia for his “aggression against Ukraine.”
He made clear that he realized Russia might take countermeasures that could negatively impact the United States.
Biden warned, “that freedom has a price,” but that he wants to limit the pain for Americans amid expected troubles with global energy supplies.
The U.S. leader stressed he imposes sanctions on Russian elites and their families to ensure that those closest to Putin don’t escape the financial pain expected for average Russian citizens.
