(Worthy News) – The international community remains almost completely silent as Christians in Nigeria continue to be slaughtered by Islamic jihadists intent on crushing Christianity and imposing Sharia law on the country.

Last week, suspected Fulani gunmen in Plateau state ambushed three Christians who had been out singing Christmas carols, murdering two of them and severely wounding a third, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports.

Islamic terrorists, including Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram jihadists, have murdered many thousands of Christians in Nigeria since 2015; nearly 4,000 Christians were murdered in the first half of 2021 alone. This year the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in its annual report that Nigeria is becoming a “killing field” for Christians, and warned of a genocide.

Nevertheless, the world has looked on, refusing to hold the Nigerian government led by Fulani president Muhammadu Buhari to account for the continual, well-documented atrocities that continue to be perpetrated against the Christian community. And, while Buhari misleads and downplays the slaughter as a fight over land, the Biden administration even went so far as to remove Nigeria from the US list of countries of particular concern.

Responding to last week’s killing, a local Christian youth leader told ICC that the government had “abandoned them to the mercy of Jihadist gunmen.” The pastor added that Fulani militants are killing Christians daily, but the US and the international community are doing nothing. Musa Avia Aga of the Irigwe/Rukuba Plateau State house of Assembly added in a separate statement to ICC: “Everywhere is unsafe and we cannot rely on the available weak security coverage that we have. I am worried… my heart bleeds at the hearing of any sad news of death as the result of Fulani (militant) attacks.”

In a statement about last week’s, a local activist told ICC: “Two were killed with bullets and a female survived dangerous bullet wounds. She was rushed to the hospital for a medical check-up, we pray she survives the bullet wounds. Gideon Amba (33), the driver, and Laraba Sunday, (16), one of the passengers were confirmed dead… Veronica Sule survived gunshot wounds and was hospitalized, they are all from my community.”
