US To Boycott China’s Winter Olympics

(Worthy News) – The White House says it will stage a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, citing China’s reported severe human rights abuses.
“The Biden administration will not send any diplomatic or official representation to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games,” stressed White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
She stressed the move was needed “given the [Peoples Republic Of China] PRC’s ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and other human rights abuses.”
Psaki referred to China’s reported crackdown of Uighur Muslims in that northwestern territory, with many reportedly facing torture in camps.
The treatment has been declared a genocide both by Biden and the administration of former President Donald Trump.
Minority Christians are also known to have been detained and tortured in China, according to several sources and incidents documented by Worthy News.
While U.S. athletes will still participate, President Joe Biden’s administration will not send any official representation to the games, Psaki explained.
“The athletes on Team USA have our full support. We will be behind them 100 percent as we cheer them on from home—[But] We will not be contributing to the fanfare of the games,” Psaki said.
“U.S. diplomatic or official representation would treat these games as business as usual in the face of the [People’s Republic of China’s] egregious human rights abuses and atrocities in Xinjiang. And we simply can’t do that,” she said.
Her remarks came as Biden prepared to host a White House Summit for Democracy, a virtual meeting Thursday and Friday of leaders and civil society experts from over 100 countries.
Biden will “announce both individual and collective commitments, reforms, and initiatives to defend democracy and human rights at home and abroad,” his administration said.
