FDA advisers back Pfizer shot for ages 5-11, paving way for Israel to follow
(Worthy News) – A panel of United States health advisers on Tuesday endorsed kid-size doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, moving the US closer to beginning vaccinations in children ages 5 to 11.
A US Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted unanimously with one abstention that the vaccine’s benefits in preventing COVID-19 in that age group outweigh any potential risks — including a heart-related side effect that’s been very rare in teens and young adults who get a much higher dose.
The FDA isn’t bound by the panel’s recommendation and is expected to make its own decision within days, though it is widely expected to okay the move. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
FDA Approves Pfizer Vaccine
The FDA committee has approved the Pfizer vaccine under the Emergency Use Authorization for kids aged 5-11, although it conceded it doesn’t know the long-term effects of the vaccination.
A voting member stated, “We’re never gonna learn about how safe the vaccine is until we start giving it.”
