(Worthy News) – The founder of the YouVersion Bible app has stated that 95% of the world’s population could have access to a full Bible in their own language by 2033, Premier Christian News (PCN) reports. Bobby Gruenewald said collaborative efforts using new translation methods and technologies are speeding up the pace at which the Bible could be soon accessible in thousands of languages worldwide.
PCN reports that YouVersion is working with illumiNations to have the New Testament translated for 99.9% of the world’s population by 2033. “We think it’s possible in most of our lifetimes here by 2033, to be able to see God’s word translated into 100% of the languages,” Gruenewald told PCN. The entire Bible could be translated in 95% of the world’s more than 6000 languages by then, Gruenewald added.
“There are still many people and thousands of languages that actually have no access to Scripture at all, no scripture in their heart language,” Gruenewald said. “They might speak another language, but it’s not their heart language, the language that they spoke when they were young. And so we’re definitely excited about being a part of an effort to change that and make that reality different going forward.”
Donors are joining together to support a collective effort to attain the envisioned goal, PCN reports. “It’s still a lot of work to come, but there’s definitely hope and a sense of that to be possible by 2033,” Gruenewald said.
In any event, the YouVersion Bible app has seen a 500 percent growth year over year since the start of the pandemic, Gruenewald told PCN.
