China reported to brainwash Christians held in “transformation” centers
(Worthy News) – Reports emerged last week that China is working to brainwash its Christian citizens by imprisoning them in mobile “transformation facilities,” Fox News reported. The reports came through Radio Free Asia, which has published accounts of abuse told by a man given the name Li Yuese to protect his identity.
In his accounts, Li said he was taken into custody after Chinese authorities raided his house church in 2018. He was then beaten and held in a windowless room for almost 10 months, Fox News reports.
Describing the conditions he was held in, Li told RFA: “There were no windows, no ventilation and no time allowed outside,” said Li. “I was given just two meals a day, which were brought to the room by a designated person.” Li added that the authorities “threaten, insult and intimidate you. These were United Front officials, men, women, sometimes unidentified, usually in plain clothes. The police turn a blind eye to this.”
In particular, Li said: “You have to accept the statement they prepare for you. If you refuse, you will be seen as having a bad attitude and they will keep you in detention and keep on beating you.” According to Li, both Protestants and Catholics are subject to this abuse. Priests, Li said, have disappeared for “five, six, even 10 years at a stretch.”
Fox News noted that these reports are “just the latest to shed light on alleged abuses at the hands of Chinese authorities.” China ranks 17 on the Open Doors 2021 Watch List of countries where Christians are persecuted. Beijing is also accused of atrocities committed against China’s minority Uighur population.
