Gov. Kristi Noem issues executive orders after refusing to sign women’s sports bill
(Worthy News) – After facing backlash for refusing to sign a bill banning biological males who identify as female from competing in women’s sports, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has signed executive orders designed to ensure that “only girls” will “play girls’ sports.”
The Republican-controlled South Dakota legislature passed House Bill 1217, which banned trans-identified females from competing in women’s sports at both the K-12 and collegiate level. While Noem, also a Republican, initially expressed support for the legislation, she ended up asking the legislature to make “style and form” revisions to parts of the bill, including the portion banning trans-identified males from competing in girls’ college athletics. Only girls should play girls’ sports. Given the legislature’s failure to accept my proposed revisions to HB 1217, I am immediately signing two executive orders to address this issue: one to protect fairness in K-12 athletics, and another to do so in college athletics. (1/3)

Presumably, this requirement was included to address a student taking these drugs as a part of a gender transition, but House Bill 1217 is not limited in this way. (7/)
