(Worthy News) – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry said Sunday they married in secret three days before their highly publicized royal wedding, as they felt “trapped” in the royal family.
In a television interview with TV-host Oprah Winfrey, Markle also said she had suicidal thoughts during their turbulent time in British palaces, allegedly marred by racism.
“Three days before our wedding, we got married,” Markle said. “No one knows that. But we called the archbishop [of Canterbury], and we just said, “Look, this thing, this spectacle, is for the world, but we want our union between us,’ ” Markle said.
“So, like, the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the archbishop of Canterbury,” she added.
The interview was the first by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex since their split from the senior members of the British royal family last year.
Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, said they first met on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend in 2016 and married in 2018.
Since then, Meghan stressed, she had times when she “didn’t want to be alive anymore.” Meghan claimed the situation was made worse when a Royal Family member had concerns about how “dark” her son Archie’s skin would be.
Both declined to reveal the name of the person who allegedly made the comments. Meghan said she now realizes that she was naive when she joined the family. She was also surprised when she was asked to curtsy when she met the Queen.
They eventually decided that royal life wasn’t for them. But that came with a price. Harry said he has now been “cut off” financially, which is why the couple sought deals with online streaming services Netflix and Spotify.
Despite their difficulties, Prince Harry revealed they would soon welcome a new family member. Their new baby – due in the summer – is a girl.
