Polls shows most young adults support abortion restrictions
(Worthy News) – A new poll shows that a majority of millennials and Generation Z in the US support various restrictions on abortion, Christian Headlines reports. Conducted by the advocacy group Students for Life, the survey found that “more than 7 out of 10 expressed support for limits on abortion.”
The poll surveyed 800 registered voters from around the US, asking them to share their thoughts on abortion restrictions, Christian Headlines said. The participants were aged between 18 and 34, and were surveyed from January 7 to January 11, 2021. Around 36 percent of participants in the poll identified as Democrats, 34 percent as Independents, and around 30 percent Republicans.
The survey found that 19 percent of participants said they believe “abortion should be allowed at any time during a woman’s pregnancy and for any reason.” A further 19 percent of participants said they believe “abortion should be legal only in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.”
Moreover, the survey found that 15 percent of participants said they believe “abortion should be legal for any reason, but not after five months of pregnancy when the fetus is viable and can feel pain.” Notably, 15 percent said “abortion should be prohibited in all circumstances.” The poll also found that 14 percent believe abortion should only be legal in the first trimester. Eight percent of the young adults surveyed said “abortion should be legal only to save the life of the mother.”
In a statement about the findings, SFLA President Kristan Hawkins said: “Far from embracing Planned Parenthood and the Democratic Party Line, Millennials and Generation Z have a more nuanced view of abortion that embraces a number of pro-life positions.”
