(Worthy News) – A new report by a leading pro-life organization shows there has been an over 35% decline in the number of surgical abortion clinics in the US since 2009, Christian Headlines reports. However, the report shows, the number of facilities where abortion-inducing pills are distributed went up during the same period.
In its recently published annual report, Operation Rescue said the number of US surgical abortion clinics decreased from 713 to 458 between 2009 and 2020. At the same time, the number of facilities distributing abortion-inducing drugs like mifepristone and misoprostol increased from 131 facilities in 2009 to 248 facilities in 2020.
Operation Rescue added that there are currently 706 abortion clinics in the country, slightly down from 710 facilities in 2019, but far fewer than the 856 clinics there were in the US in 2012, Christian Headlines reports.
“The decline in surgical abortion facilities continues to be bad news for the Abortion Cartel, but is great news for women and their babies,” Operation Rescue President Troy Newman said in a statement. “Surgical abortion facilities are still the most numerous and the most profitable, so when they shut down, it is great news that means lives are being saved.”
The pro-choice Abortion Care Network (ACN) has also published a report showing a decline in the number of abortion clinics. The ACN found that 127 US abortion clinics have closed since 2015.
