(Worthy News) – U.S. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer wants President Donald J. Trump’s Cabinet to remove him from office. He spoke after Wednesday’s deadly assault on the Capitol by rioters claiming to be Trump supporters.
At least four people were killed and many injured in the violent confrontation. Schumer called the Capitol attack, which houses Congress, “an insurrection against the United States, incited by the president.” He added, “This president should not hold office one day longer.”
Schumer urged U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment of the United States Constitution. That vehicle could allow for the immediate removal of Trump from office.
He added: “If the vice president and the Cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress should reconvene to impeach the president.”
Earlier the Congress certified Joe Biden’s alleged victory in the presidential election despite reported voter fraud.
While the deliberations were ongoing, angry crowds stormed the U.S. Capitol, forcing lawmakers to be rushed from the building and interrupting challenges to Biden’s Electoral College victory.
Congress returned later Wednesday to resume their proceedings after the Capitol was cleared by law enforcement and confirmed Biden as the presidential election winner. Biden is due to be inaugurated as the nation’s 46 president on January 20.
