Post-election survey: Vast majority of conservative Christians voted Trump
(Worthy News) – A new survey conducted after the 2020 presidential election has shown that 97% of politically active conservative Christians voted for Donald Trump, the Christian Post reports. The survey was launched by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University and was conducted from November 3 through November 16, 2020.
The survey polled 6,000 Spiritually Active Governance Engaged Conservative Christians (SAGE Cons) and 2,000 “semi-SAGE Cons.” A further 1,000 respondents were randomly selected from the general public. It was found that, while 99% of SAGE Cons voted in the election, only 66% of the general public turned out to vote, CP reports.
Trump won 97% of some 23 million SAGE Con votes.
In a statement about the results, George Barna, director of research at the Cultural Research Center said: “Donald Trump would have lost by a landslide had a significant slice of the voting populace—conservative Christians who are active both spiritually and politically—not turned out and voted for him in overwhelming numbers.”
Abortion was cited by 60% of SAGE Cons as an important issue in the election, CP reports.
Other important issues were: judicial nominations and appointments (23%), religious freedom (17%), law and order and the US Constitution (12%), and the economy (28%).
According to the survey, most SAGE Cons who voted for Trump in 2016 had done so in voting against Hillary Clinton rather than voting for Donald Trump. By the 2020 election, however, they had “transitioned from reluctant Trump supporters to perhaps his most enthusiastic segment of supporters.”
