Hamas calls on Biden to reverse current US policy toward Palestinians

(Worthy News) – While the leaders of several Arab countries expressed enthusiasm for future cooperation with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris following the November 3 US election, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called on a Biden administration to “correct” what he described as “discriminatory American policy toward the Palestinian people that has caused instability in the region and the world,” the Jewish Press reports.
Responding to Biden’s announcement of victory in the election, Haniyeh made a list of demands Saturday, saying in a statement: “The Trump administration was the most extreme in its support for Israel at the expense of Palestinian rights. We call on President-elect Joe Biden to make a historic correction to the discriminatory American policy toward the Palestinian people that has caused instability in the region and the world,” the Jewish Press reports.
The Jewish Press listed Haniyeh’s demands for Biden as: Revoke the Trump peace plan; revoke recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel; dismantle the US embassy in Jerusalem; annul all efforts to cancel the rights of Palestinian refugees, especially the reduction in funding to UNRWA’s budget.
“US President Donald Trump, who sought to obliterate Palestine’s cause, has gone and Jerusalem will not go,” Haniyeh added.
Meanwhile, the leaders of Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan expressed their interest and hope in strong future cooperation with a Biden administration.
