World Health Organization Admits Lockdowns Were Wrong

(Worthy News) – In a major policy shift, the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged world leaders to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” against the coronavirus amid fears they lead to as many as 100 million deaths.
In video footage of The Spectator magazine seen by Worthy News, the WHO Organization’s special envoy on COVID-19 said the group has changed its views on lockdowns that impacted billions of people
“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr. David Nabarro said in an interview with The Spectator magazine.
“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”
The comments were welcomed by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suffered from COVID-19 and urged Democratic-run states to reopen churches and businesses.
“The World Health Organization, did you see what happened? They came out a little while ago and they admitted that Donald Trump was right,” Trump said during a large rally in Sanford, Fla. — his first after recovering from the coronavirus.
“TREMENDOUS DAMAGE”
“The lockdowns are doing tremendous damage to these Democrat-run states where they are locked down, sealed up. Suicide rates, drug rates, alcoholism, death by so many different forms. You can’t do that,” Trump stressed.
Trump condemned Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden for saying in August he would seek to re-impose harsh restrictions if scientists advised it.
“Biden would terminate our recovery, delay the vaccine, prolong the pandemic and annihilate Florida’s economy with a draconian, unscientific lockdown — that’s what he wants to do, lock it down, lock it down everybody,” Trump told the crowd.
“And you know what? If you don’t feel good about going out, stay, relax, stay. You know the risk groups, you know the older people.”
Trump had long argued that lockdowns measures could cause more misery than the coronavirus. Dr. Nabarro seemed to agree to say tight restrictions cause significant harm, particularly on the global economy.
POVERTY INCREASES
“Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never, ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” the WHO envoy explained.
He added that lockdowns have severely impacted countries that rely on tourism. “Just look at what’s happened to the tourism industry in the Caribbean, for example, or in the Pacific because people aren’t taking their holidays,” Nabarro told The Spectator.
“Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”
Earlier this year the United Nations children’s fund UNICEF predicted the lockdown measures could result in 1.16 million additional child fatalities and 57,000 maternal deaths in just six months.
The modeling projected that India would see both the largest number of additional deaths in children under five and maternal mortality, followed by Nigeria. Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Indonesia are also likely to be hit hard.
100 MILLION DEATHS
In the Netherlands, some experts at the respected Erasmus University and other institutes warned lockdowns will lead to as many as 100 million deaths.
The figure was mentioned in a report co-written by Michaéla Schippers a psychologist and Professor of Behaviour and Performance Management at the Rotterdam School of Management. “I call that ‘the corona paradox,’ meaning that we are actually weakening the people who we want to protect,” she said.
“This is reflected on all kinds of fronts. For example, the fact that people with other medical conditions – such as cancer, heart problems, or neurological problems – have had less access to care in recent months because everyone was focused on COVID-19,” Schippers added.
“And it has been calculated that the global economic slowdown may ultimately lead to as many as 100 million deaths. The lockdown was a drastic measure,” the professor stressed.
