(Worthy News) – Shortly after tweeting a video of himself at Walter Reed Medical Center where he is being treated for COIVD-19, US President Donald Trump briefly left the Maryland hospital Sunday to conduct a drive-by salute to supporters gathered outside, Fox News reports. Wearing a black mask and seated in the back of a hermetically sealed, bulletproof SUV with his driver and security detail, Trump waved to a rallying crowd of people he had described in his earlier video as “great patriots.” The President then returned to the medical center to continue treatment.
In the video posted from his hospital suite prior to the drive-by, President Trump said he was feeling “much better now.” The president had been airlifted from the White House to Walter Reed “out of an abundance of caution” Friday, and has been receiving cutting-edge treatment from a team of physicians there. I am “fighting for the millions of people around the world [who have been infected with COVID-19],” Trump said.
Referencing a new understanding of the novel coronavirus, the president said: “I learned it by really going to school. This is the real school. This isn’t the let’s read the book school and I get it. And I understand it. And it’s a very interesting thing. I’m gonna be letting you know about it. In the meantime, we love the USA and we love what’s happening,” he said.
The president also thanked world leaders and well-wishers for their messages of support: “I most of all I appreciate what’s been said by the American people, almost by a bipartisan consensus, by the American people,” Trump said. He then made specific mention of those gathered outside the hospital: “They’ve been out there for a long time and they’ve got Trump flags and they love our country so I’m not telling anybody but you but I’m about to make a little surprise visit.”
A short while later, the presidential motorcade drove slowly by the dozens of people outside Walter Reed and Trump waved and gave the thumbs-up sign to them from inside his car. Music played and MAGA hats and Trump cookies were on sale, Fox News reports.
