Beirut Christian ministry in aftermath of explosion
(Worthy News) – In the immediate aftermath of the August 4 explosion which blasted through Beirut, Christian Arab broadcasting company SAT-7 Arabic Channels began ministering to the city’s devastated community, CBN News reports. SAT-7 broadcasts to around 30 million people in the Middle East and North Africa, sharing the Gospel in Arabic, Farsi and Turkish.
Although SAT-7 Beirut studio suffered some damage, it is located several miles away from the site of the explosion and was up and running. Soon after the blast, SAT-7 A launched a campaign of prayer and practical help to those needing hope, comfort and encouragement.
“We started to broadcast prayers and for people, for their safety for those who lost loved ones and for the responsible people in the government – the government positions, so God may open their eyes so we can save people from this misery,” George Makeen, Director of SAT-7 told CBN News. During another broadcast, “people [were] praying and worshipping and speaking about where we can find hope, how we can find hope in such pain,” Makeen said.
Live worship was broadcast and staff also took it upon themselves to go out and help: “They were in the streets downtown, trying to clean and trying to distribute food (and) drinks to people and just pray with them – tell them that we feel with (them).”
In a Facebook post, SAT-7 Academy Brand Manager Juliana Sfeir said the citizens of Lebanon had not experienced anything as devastating as this explosion, despite having been through 15 years of civil war. “They have lost hope in the future. Please pray for protection from another civil war. Please pray for protection from emigration as well. A lot of our young people will want to leave now. Please pray for us here at SAT-7 to be the church that heals,” Sfeir said.
