7-2 SCOTUS: President Trump is Not ‘Absolutely Immune From State Criminal Subpoena Seeking His Private Papers’
(Worthy News) – The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that “no citizen, not even the President, is categorically above the common duty to produce evidence when called upon in a criminal proceeding.
“We reaffirm that principle today and hold that the President is neither absolutely immune from state criminal subpoena seeking his private papers nor entitled to a heightened standard of need.”
The 7-2 ruling, written by Chief Justice John Roberts, makes it possible for Manhattan prosecutors to eventually get their hands on Trump’s business and financial records as part of their Stormy Daniels hush-money investigation.The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that “no citizen, not even the President, is categorically above the common duty to produce evidence when called upon in a criminal proceeding.
