(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday banning the use of chokeholds by police except when an officer’s life is at risk.
It calls for the sharing of information about police officers so that they can’t transfer to other police departments if they have “significant issues.” It would also provide federal funds to help officers deal with homeless people and those with mental problems and addiction.
“Under the executive order I’m signing today, we will prioritize federal grants from the Department of Justice to police departments that seek independent credentialing, certifying that they meet high standards, and in fact, in certain cases, the highest standard … on the use of force and de-escalation training,” he said.
