Regional conflict in Middle East looks likely again as Trump and Iran trade threats, Syria reports Israeli airstrikes

(Worthy News) – President Trump threatened Iran with severe retaliation Wednesday after the U.S. military claimed Iranian ships had made “dangerous and threatening approaches” toward American navy vessels in the Persian Gulf last week.

Trump tweeted that he had “instructed the US Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea,” as the Iranian foreign minister was set to meet by video conference with his counterparts from Russia and Turkey to hammer out peace in the Syria conflict.

The feints by Iran are the first major sign of impending conflict that have been seen since Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani was killed by an American drone strike at Baghdad International Airport in January and Iran responded by shelling an American base in Iraq.

Israel on Monday was also reported by Syrian state media to have conducted its third missile attack in three weeks on Iranian assets within the borders of its northern neighbor, as a regional conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran and its proxies throughout the “Shi’a crescent” seemed more likely.
