(Worthy News) – The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic Wednesday, after weeks of resisting the label in light of a nearly worldwide spread of the virus.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said his organization was “deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity” as well as by “the alarming levels of inaction” by national governments in taking the virus seriously.
“We have therefore made the assessment that [it] can be characterized as a pandemic,” he told reporters.
Global figures show that the virus has now reached 114 countries and produced 118,000 cases with nearly 4,300 deaths, the most in China and Italy.
