US intelligence expert: Soleimani was planning new Iran hostage crisis, coup against Iraqi government

(Worthy News) – A US Intelligence expert has revealed the real reason US President Trump assassinated Iranian terrorist leader Qassem Soleimani in January, claiming what looked like an escalation with the Islamic Republic ‘was actually a de-escalating event.’
According to Michael Pregent of the Hudson Institute, Iran was planning a hostage takeover of the US embassy in Baghdad mirroring the hostage crisis that occurred in Tehran in 1979, simultaneous to a coup against the Iraqi government that would have installed an Iranian puppet as Prime Minister.
“They were going to take over the embassy, take all the Americans in the embassy hostage and then broker their release in exchange for sanctions relief,” Pregent said in an interview with CBN News.
He explained that “the chatter was they were going to put Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in as prime minister,” a reference to the deputy leader of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces who was killed in the drone strike along with Soleimani.
Pregent claimed based on the intelligence the assassination of Soleimani was “the best move we could have made,” as it “sent a message to the regime that the President was really serious about hurting Iran.”
The Iranian regime is the number nine worst persecutor of Christians worldwide, according to Open Doors USA’s 2020 World Watch List, though the Islamic Republic has one of the fastest-growing underground Christian movements in the world.
