(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled the “Deal of the Century” peace plan engineered by Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and his team Tuesday, portending what Netanyahu called a “realistic path to a durable peace.”
Comparing Trump’s plan with US President Truman’s decision, along with Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, to recognize the fledgling modern state of Israel in 1948, Netanyahu said the plan departed from others that had come before in giving recognition to “vital” Israeli security interests.
“[Past plans] failed because they did not strike the right balance between Israel’s security and national interest and Palestinian aspirations,” Netanyahu said.
The Israeli Prime Minister said that in recognizing Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, Trump, Kushner, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and their team were “puncturing [the] big lie” that Israel is an occupier in these Palestinian-majority areas that once belonged to it.
According to Trump, the plan provides for a Palestinian state in east Jerusalem to be finalized when the “conditions of statehood” are met by the Palestinians over a period of four years, which conditions include the disbanding of the militant terrorist organization Hamas and recognition of the Jewish state of Israel’s right to exist.
$50 billion in investments are lined up to jumpstart the economy of the new Palestinian state, according to Trump, which will be demilitarized and only come into being if the Palestinians “reject terrorism.”
