Planned Parenthood performs more abortions this year, but loses private funding

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Planned Parenthood performed 345,672 abortions in its most recent fiscal year, up from 12,915 the previous year, according to the 2018-2019 annual report it released over the weekend.

Abortions made up 4% of Planned Parenthood’s services, up from 3.4% the year before, though it had dropped in contributions from private donors by 400,000 people and lost $17.5 million in revenue compared with the previous year.

A new Trump administration rule over the summer sought to curtail the siphoning of federal government funds into abortion services by Planned Parenthood, which could legally receive the funds under its broad healthcare umbrella and then apply them to abortion.

Nevertheless, so far the organization has received $616 million in funding from states and the government this year, up from $563 million from the previous fiscal year.

Pro-life advocates hope that new conservative Supreme Court appointments by the Trump administration will lead to an overturning of Roe V. Wade, as liberal states seek to loosen, and conservative states to tighten, restrictions on the practice of abortion.
