Netanyahu vows to apply Israeli sovereignty to Jordan Valley if reelected

(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Tuesday that Israel would apply its sovereignty to the Jordan Valley if he is reelected.
The area called the “eastern defensive shield of the state of Israel” by Netanyahu rival Benny Gantz, is part of the larger West Bank that separates Israel from Jordan, to which Netanyahu has formally pledged to apply sovereignty as well.
“There is a unique and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something with broad consensus and bring safe permanent borders to the state of Israel,” Netanyahu said at a press conference that was touted by Israeli media as a stunt to gain votes ahead of election re-dos next week.
Netanyahu noted that conditions for the move, which would follow Israel establishing sovereignty over the Golan heights with US approval before elections last April, had “ripened” under a Trump administration that was reportedly kept abreast of the idea and did not object, according to the Times of Israel.
The Jerusalem Post reports that Palestinian authorities have called Netanyahu’s proposal a “declaration of war,” a death knell for the peace process, and the end of all Palestinian obligation to abide by agreements with Israel.
