(AgapePress) – The author of a book entitled The Gospel According to the New York Times says the well-known newspaper is targeting the conservative worldview.
Conservative Christians have long held the belief that mainstream media are no friends of Bible-based standards. William Proctor’s book on The New York Times will likely serve as new ammunition for those concerns.
In a review published by Baptist Press, Proctor argues that The Times uses its power to crusade against conservative stands in such areas as abortion, religion, capital punishment, and gun control. Proctor also says The Times is more and more spreading that liberal influence to other media as their reporters and columnists are often guests on broadcast networks such as PBS or CNN. He says what these reporters are often doing is promoting what he calls “culture creep.â€
Proctor suggests people get their news from a variety of sources in order to better ensure a balance view on the issues.
On a similar note, many Americans are questioning The Times recent endorsement of Hillary Rodham Clinton for the New York Senate. The endorsement reads as follows:
“The investigative literature of Whitewater and related scandals is replete with evidence that Mrs. Clinton has a lamentable tendency to treat political opponents as enemies. She has clearly been less than truthful in her comments to investigators and too eager to follow President Clinton’s method of peddling access for campaign donations. Her fondness for stonewalling in response to legitimate questions about financial or legislative matters contributed to the bad ethical reputation of the Clinton Administration.â€
Yet The Times goes on to say that “Mrs. Clinton is capable of growing beyond the ethical legacies of her Arkansas and White House years.â€
Many Americans are outraged that the newspaper is not holding Mrs. Clinton accountable for her lack of honesty. Also, many have questioned the dignity of The Times’ attempt to install into the Senate a politician who the paper itself has said is ‘â€less than truthful.â€
