Iraq Blames Explosion On “Zionists”
IRAQ BLAMES EXPLOSION ON “ZIONISTS”
An explosion rocked the Iraqi capital of Baghdad early Friday morning, killing two people and injuring several others. The regime of dictator Saddam Hussein immediately blamed the blast on “the agents of treachery and vice… the Zionists and the Americans.”
The official Iraqi News Agency, INA, quoted a security source as saying that a highly explosive device was planted between two buses at a garage in the al-Karkh area. The blast – the second in Baghdad in a month – occurred just after midnight. An explosion shook the same area of Baghdad on February 25, injuring one person and damaging residential buildings.
The security source said, “These criminal and outlawed acts, which are planned by recognized and well-known circles linked with the Zionists and the Americans, aim desperately to impair the steadfastness of our people.”
Iraq had blamed its former Gulf War foe Iran for several bombings in the recent past, including a rocket attack on residential districts in Baghdad in September. However, Iraqi officials and media have intensified their diatribes against the US and Israel following last month’s American/British air raids against radar and military communications sites near Baghdad.
