“Agreement” Already Broken

While world leaders met today in an attempt to hammer out an agreement between two leaders who failed to sit down one with the other, violent clashes continued in Judea, Samaria, Gaza and in Jerusalem itself. Live fire from PA-ruled areas near Bethlehem was directed into the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo with Israeli casualties. The tanks that have been in Gilo for the past week returned fire with their machine guns.

Before the agreement brokered by Clinton was two hours old, already it was being abrogated by Arafat and his factions. A border policeman who was shot in the stomach, is now fighting for his life in Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital in Ein Karem. A citizen shot in the hand was transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center and others were treated for shock. Police and military forces have closed down the streets leading to the area targeted by Arab snipers.

The Gilo community which is within the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem lies in territory annexed by Israel after the Six Day War.

Hamas leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin today continued to issue statements from Gaza, calling for renewed terror attacks against Israel. Officials of Arafat’s so-called “moderate” Fatah faction on Monday reiterated that the fighting throughout Judea, Samaria & Gaza will continue until the IDF is pushed back to the pre-June 1967 borders.

IDF commanders have stated they expect the daily shooting and other attacks to continue for the indefinite future, adding that the worst is still not over for YESHA communities.

The daily Ma’ariv yesterday pointed out that the overwhelming number of weapons being used against Israelis in attacks were distributed to the PA by Israel under the Oslo Agreements.
