ACLJ Applauds Bush Decision on Stem Cell Research
August 10, 2001
(Washington, DC) – The American Center for Law and Justice, an international public interest law firm and educational organization, said President Bush’s decision to prohibit the use of federal funds to destroy human embryos to obtain stem cells for research is the correct decision on this critical issue.
“We are extremely pleased that the President has refused to permit the use of federal funds to be used to destroy human embryos and therefore human life,†said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. “It is clear the President has given this issue very serious thought and consideration. And while all Americans hope that medical and scientific research result in new discoveries that provide cures for numerous maladies, the President also made it clear that he considers human embryos to be human life – sacred life – that must be protected. The President said ‘no’ to the most troubling aspect of this issue – the use of federal funds to destroy human embryos – to destroy human life. The President has reached the correct decision concerning one of the most serious ethical and moral issues of our day.â€
