Israeli Journalist: Anyone Would Fight For Their Home
On Front Page Jerusalem this week, Cox & Kinchlow explore the complexities of the Gaza Pullout and the possibility of civil war as the summer evacuation date draws closer. They interview Israeli citizens representing both sides of the controversial issue. Joining in with their differing opinions in the FPJ’s Roundtable are Danny Seaman, Director of Israel’s Government Press Office, Yechiel Leiter, Chief of Staff for Benjamin Netanyahu, and Caroline Glick, Deputy Managing Editor of the Jerusalem Post and award-winning columnist.
Front Page Jerusalem Co-Hosts Cox & Kinchlow interviewed two Israeli citizens this week with opposing views on the Gaza Disengagement plan looming on the Israeli horizon this summer. David Bedein, head of the Israel News Resource Agency, vehemently opposes the removal of Jews from Gaza saying, “Jews have come home to live in Israel. Anyone trying to remove them is committing a crime under the Declaration of Human Rights Treaty because this is our national home. The Palestinian Authority is still at war with Israel.†Isaac Gronberg, a grandfather, IDF veteran and Israel tour guide offers another side. “Thirty years ago the Jewish people had the high courage to settle Gaza. Now they have to have the same courage to leave and fulfill government requests. It’s in the interest of the Israeli state now.†Gronberg added, “I think all Jewish homes and buildings should be bulldozed. I don’t want to see any building with a PLO flag flying over it. Leave it as we found it. Nothing was there. Give them what they want. Let them rebuild.â€
Caroline Glick, a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Center for Security Policy, weighed in with her expertise on this issue which is tearing into the fabric of Israeli society. “Gaza is a nesting ground for global jihadists. Hezbollah and Al Qaeda are already there. Palestinian statehood is part of the problem, not part of a solution.†Glick, who was named the most prominent woman in Israel by another major Israeli newspaper, pointed out, “Gaza (Gush Katif) was sand dunes before the Jewish people returned thirty years ago. They use the most advanced agriculture in world. They have worked miracles in the Land. Now they’re being told it doesn’t belong to them. This is not like moving from one apartment to another. Sharon is giving the land to murderers. Anyone would fight for their home anywhere in the world.â€
The Jerusalem Post Deputy Editor also asserted that the Israeli media is guilty of biased reporting concerning the disengagement issue. “The press has denied democratic rights to the settlers in expressing their side of the issue.†She cited instances where the press under-reported mass prayer rallies attended by 150,000 people who oppose the disengagement. “People outside of Israel can’t understand that there’s no alternative media outlets in Israel. We have two main papers and a third radical one and three TV stations which all say the same thing. It’s a collusion between the press and government.â€
