Keep Christ Out Of Christmas?

PIEDMONT (Worthy News)– Not surprisingly, atheists were angered by an Alabama town’s “Keep Christ In Christmas” theme for its annual Christmas parade, according to The Inquisitr News.

Although Piedmont wanted to remind everyone about the reason for the season, the town’s theme was opposed by the secular Freedom From Religion Foundation. On Nov. 24, the Wisconsin-based atheists reportedly sent a letter to Piedmont officials requesting the theme of the parade be changed because it wasn’t appropriate for a secular celebration.

But Piedmont Mayor Bill Baker disagreed.

“It was a great theme,” he said. “It’s a small town. It’s a small Christmas parade. We didn’t think there would be any problems at all.”

However, an attorney representing the city agreed with FFRF. But though the parade’s coordinators were forced to change its theme, that didn’t stop Piedmont’s citizens from making their beliefs known.

“This anti-religious group that started all this stuff, I really believe this has backfired on them,” Baker said. “What has happened now is the city of Piedmont — great city to live in, great people — has rallied. They have caused our parade to be bigger and better with more emphasis placed on Christianity. There’s people in there wearing T-shirts that are of a religious nature. It just went crazy, out of sight, in a positive way.”
