WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)– The Alliance Defending Freedom has submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to the Internal Revenue Service for any documents about the IRS having adopted new protocols and procedures for investigating churches.

ADF submitted its FOI request after the Freedom From Religion Foundation accused the IRS of failing to investigate churches to the foundation’s satisfaction in an FFRF July 17 press release.

According to the FFRF press release: “The IRS has now resolved the signature authority issue necessary to initiate church examinations. The IRS also has adopted procedures for reviewing, evaluating and determining whether to initiate church investigations.”

“We are asking the IRS to disclose the new protocols and procedures it apparently adopted for determining whether to investigate churches,” said ADF Litigation Counsel Christiana Holcomb. “What it intends to do to churches must be brought into the light of day.”

ADF is a non-profit legal organization that advocates for the right of people to live out their faith.
