WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – The White House has been hosting events in observance of “Holy Week,” acknowledging Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and His victory over death. “What a contrast to Easter last year at the White House when President [Joe] Biden declared the most holy day of the year [Easter Sunday] on the Christian calendar ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’ (TDOV),” noted evangelist Franklin Graham, who attended this week’s White House Easter Prayer Dinner.

Biden aides countered that the then-president did not set TDOV to be held on last year’s Easter Sunday. They said TDOV is marked annually on March 31, but the day on which Easter Sunday is celebrated changes from year to year. Biden reportedly first proclaimed March 31 as Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) in 2021.

Yet critics suggested that Biden could at least have skipped TDOV on Easter Sunday. Speaking at Wednesday night’s Easter event at the White House

President Trump made clear that under his watch, it’s “U.S. policy that God created two genders, male and female,” and that he, as president, wants all people to know Christ.”Nearly 2,000 years ago, during this sacred week, the living Son of God entered Jerusalem in triumph. Soon after, the Savior of man who brought truth and light into the world was betrayed, arrested, tried, and crucified, nailed to the cross,” Trump declared.

CHRIST FOLLOWERS

“For our sake, He gave up His life…three days later, Christ-followers found the empty tomb. Jesus Christ had defeated darkness and death and promised new life to all of humankind, and that’s what we celebrate on Easter when we joyfully proclaim on Sunday: ‘He is Risen!'”

President Trump also expressed concern about the millions of persecuted Christians worldwide.

Ahead of Wednesday’s remarks, he had already issued a written proclamation about his faith in Jesus Christ, even going so far as to say that he and

First Lady Melania Trump is praying for an “outpouring of the Holy Spirit” upon the United States. “As we focus on Christ’s redeeming sacrifice, we look to His love, humility, and obedience—even in life’s most difficult and uncertain moments. This week, we pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our beloved Nation,” Trump wrote. “We pray that America will remain a beacon of faith, hope, and freedom for the entire world, and we pray to achieve a future that reflects the truth, beauty, and goodness of Christ’s eternal kingdom in Heaven.”

The president stressed that “This Holy Week, Melania and I join in prayer with Christians celebrating the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—the living Son of God who conquered death, freed us from sin, and unlocked the gates of Heaven for all of humanity.”

He recalled that “Beginning with Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and culminating in the Paschal Triduum, which begins on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, followed by Good Friday and reaching its pinnacle in the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night. This week is a time of reflection for Christians to memorialize Jesus’ crucifixion—and to prepare their hearts, minds, and souls for His miraculous Resurrection from the dead.”

During this “sacred week,” he said, “We acknowledge that the glory of Easter Sunday cannot come without the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross. In His final hours on Earth, Christ willingly endured excruciating pain, torture, and execution on the cross out of a deep and abiding love for all His creation. Through His suffering, we have redemption.”

‘SINS FORGIVEN’

Through His death, we are forgiven of our sins. Through His Resurrection, we have hope of eternal life. On Easter morning, the stone is rolled away, the tomb is empty, and light prevails over darkness—signaling that death does not have the final word.”

He added that on this “Holy Week, my Administration renews its promise to defend the Christian faith in our schools, military, workplaces, hospitals, and halls of government.

We will never waver in safeguarding the right to religious liberty, upholding the dignity of life, and protecting God in our public square.”

On Wednesday, he also acknowledged Billy Graham, the father of evangelist Franklin Graham. Trump recalled that he and his father visited Yankee Stadium in New York to see the late evangelist. “You think that we have a big crowd? That was some crowd; I will never forget it.”

Trump also recognized an “angel mom” at the dinner table, asking her to stand up: Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin — an American citizen who was reportedly murdered and raped by an illegal immigrant in 2023. Trump praised her resilient spirit, telling Morin, “She’s a beautiful woman; she’s been through hell.” He added, “Your daughter’s looking down, proud of you, just keep it going.”

Hearing the president speak, Pastor Jentezen Franklin offered gratitude “to God for sparing” Trump’s life from assassination last year, saying, “And we’re thankful God assigned an angel to stand between you and that bullet.”

Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, led prayer at the White House Easter event, thanking Trump for his Palm Sunday message, which acknowledged Easter as a day to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.

SPIRITUAL DRAUGHT

“There’s been a spiritual drought in this city for the past few years,” Franklin told Trump, “and so I’m very grateful for the Easter declaration you put out.”

Graham was later invited to preach in the White House’s “Holy Thursday staff worship service,” while pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie was asked to pray and read Scripture.

The White House said it also planned a time of communion, and Liberty University students were invited to lead worship music.

The White House faith office organized the events. It is led by controversial Florida pastor Paula White-Cain, who has been criticized for her perceived prosperity-focused teachings.

Yet during this week’s event, she focused on Christ’s enduring blessings for all those who believe in Him.
