(Worthy News) – After 503 days, Israel received the coffins of four hostages—baby Kfir Bibas, his brother Ariel, their mother Shiri, and 83-year-old Oded Lifshitz—abducted by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, massacre.

All four were abducted alive from their homes in Kibbutz Nir Oz during the Hamas-led attack and massacre in southern Israel.

At 9:30 a.m., the bodies were handed over to the Red Cross during a propaganda-heavy ceremony in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, despite calls for respect.

In contrast to previous ceremonies where live hostages were returned, Israeli media, chose not to broadcast live footage from Khan Younis out of respect for the deceased.

Media worldwide intensely covered the event, with reporters visibly moved by the news that the Bibas children, among the 250 hostages taken by Hamas, were confirmed deceased.

On Thursday, the United Nations and Israeli authorities criticized Hamas after the group publicly exhibited the bodies of four Israeli hostages before transferring them to the Red Cross.

Volker Türk, the UN Human Rights Chief, described the display as “abhorrent” and against international law. “Under international law, any handover of remains must comply with the prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, ensuring respect for the dignity of the deceased and their families,” stated Türk.

Footage from Israel revealed that Hostages Square in Tel Aviv was largely empty, a stark contrast to previous hostage releases. Only a few braved the rainy conditions initially, though numbers grew over time. Despite this, many Israelis still gathered nationwide in harsh weather to await the return of the hostages.

Of the 251 hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, sixty-six remain in Gaza, including the remains of at least 35 confirmed deceased by the Israel Defense Forces.
