US Deploys B-52 Bombers Over Middle East in Regional Show of Force

(Worthy News) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted a Bomber Task Force Mission in the Middle East, to “demonstrate force projection capabilities” to send a clear warning to adversaries in the region.
Two B-52 bombers from RAF Fairford, U.K., traversed Europe and nine partner nations in CENTCOM’s jurisdiction, performing aerial refueling and live munitions drops at various ranges. U.S. F-15s and aircraft from four partner nations also provided fighter escorts for the duration of the mission.
“Bomber Task Force missions demonstrate U.S. power projection capability, commitment to regional security, and ability to respond to any state or non-state actor seeking to broaden or escalate conflict in the CENTCOM region,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander.
CENTCOM did not disclose the countries involved in the mission, which followed recent U.S.-led airstrikes in Syria and Iraq over the past week.
The B-52 flyover coincided with a crucial U.S.–Russia meeting in Saudi Arabia, where officials tentatively agreed to reestablish diplomatic ties and set up de-escalation working groups concerning Ukraine.
