(Worthy News) – Boko Haram terrorists raided communities in northeastern Nigeria last week, displacing over 1,500 Christians. Since 2009, Islamic terror groups—including Boko Haram, Islamic State, and Fulani jihadists—have killed or abducted tens of thousands of Christians and displaced millions in their push for an Islamic Caliphate.

The latest surge of attacks took place during an early morning raid on Nigerian villages of Shikarkir and Yirmirmug, terrorists killed eight Christians, destroyed 57 homes, and ravaged the Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa church, along with food supplies, livelihoods, and livestock. Seeking to establish an Islamic caliphate, they threatened Christians with death if they refused to convert, according to International Christian Concern (ICC).

Pastor Yarakawa Mutah, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Chibok, told the ICC that Boko Haram, officially Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, deliberately targets Christians.

“Even if there is a mosque, they don’t burn the mosque,” Mutah said. “They only burn Christian houses and churches.”

An unnamed source confirmed, “The attackers burn down houses, food barns, and whatever they find belonging to Christians, leaving those owned by Muslims,” the source told ICC.

Over 60,000 Christians have been killed, and tens of millions displaced in Nigeria over the past two decades. Many end up in refugee camps, where women and children face human trafficking and health risks.

Nigeria, plagued by ongoing jihadist violence, ranks seventh on the Open Doors World Watch List 2025 for Christian persecution.
