(Worthy News) – A Christian woman in India’s Odisha state is recovering after she was stripped naked and brutalized until she blacked out by Hindu nationalists enraged at her faith in Christ, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.
On December 26, Subhasini Singh, 40, was celebrating Christmas with Gobinda Singh and five other families in Chhankhanpur village, Balasore District, Odisha state, when a group of Hindus barged in and interrogated them, MSN reports. According to Pastor Sadhu Sundar Singh of New Living Church in the Nilagiri area of Balasore, the Hindus falsely accused the Christians of forcing Indians to leave Hinduism for Christ.
After first attacking Gobinda, his wife, and his teenage daughter, the Hindus turned on Subhasini with extreme force. “They kicked me between my legs at least three times, and landed several blows on my chest, legs, face, knees, and my head,” Subhasini told MSN. “Last I remember was that three men were beating me in the room,” she said in what MSN describes as a “shaky” voice. “When I regained consciousness, I was being dragged out of the room naked by some women.”
“I pleaded to the women to allow me to wear my blouse and saree before they drag me outside the house and make a public show of me,” Subhasini continued, sobbing, according to MSN. “I was in pain from head to toe. My private parts were also hurting. I couldn’t say then if I went through something horrifying while I was unconscious,” she said.
The mob then tied Subhasini Singh Sukanti Singh to a tree on which hung a picture of Christ, and continued beating them, MSN reports.
The police were called and, local residents told MSN, saved Subhasini and Sukanti from being burned alive. After protracted delays, including three Christians being taken into custody on false allegations of forced conversions, seven people were eventually arrested for the violence inflicted against the believers, MSN said.
Hindu extremist violence against Indian Christians has seen a dramatic increase since the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party took power in 2014; India ranks 11 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2024 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.
