(Worthy News) – President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday his intention to designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations in an effort to combat the growing influence and violence associated with these groups. In addition, he revealed plans to launch a comprehensive anti-drug advertising campaign within the United States.

This initiative aims to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to curb the demand that fuels the cartels’ operations. Trump’s remarks highlight a dual approach to addressing the issue by targeting both the supply chain and the domestic consumption that perpetuates the drug crisis.

“I will immediately designate the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations,” Trump declared during a Turning Point conference in Arizona, reaffirming his campaign promise to pursue this designation.

Trump’s election platform outlines that upon his return to the White House, he will instruct the Department of Defense to deploy “special forces, cyber warfare, and other covert and overt actions to inflict maximum damage on cartel leadership, infrastructure, and operations.”

“We’re going to advertise how bad drugs are for you,” Trump said at a Turning Point conference in Arizona, discussing the planned ad campaign. “They ruin your look, they ruin your face, they ruin your skin, they ruin your teeth.”

In recent years, hundreds of thousands of Americans have died from fentanyl overdoses, a synthetic opioid 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Just 2 milligrams can be fatal, and Mexican cartels often traffic the drug across the U.S.–Mexico border.
